Still in total disbelief, we are forced to accept that the inevitable has occurred for Sir Lovett Lawson who answered the call to eternity on 13th July 2020.
What a loss for his family, friends and Nigeria at large. We first met Prof. Lawson in 2013 in Abuja as we arrived there in 2012 to take office with UNHCR. A perfect gentleman, amicable, intelligent and wise were just a few of the character traits of Dr. Lawson who was the cousin to our God Father, Bene Lawson. We spent memorable times together at his place with his lovely wife, Funkè, at our place in Maitama too. We left Nigeria in December 2016 but never thought we would never see Sr Lovett again.
Our dear Lovett, as you precede us to our Heavenly Father's house, may your gentle soul rest in eternal peace and may our good Lord grant fortitude to Funkè, the three boys and entire bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss, amen. Eternal regrets,
The DIKONGUE's.

It was such a rude shock for me when I heard about the passing of Professor Lovett Lawson....He was my husband, Yinka Craig's very close friend...I recall in 1986, when Yinka was assigned to a new assignment at work, he needed a place of rest and refuge to spend his leave and he chose to go to his friend Lovett in Jos....he came back refreshed and recharged.

I eventually met Professor Lawson  when we moved to Abuja in 2005.... he had invested heavily in an excellent practice, Zankli Medical Center, which he ran with his Paediatrician wife, Dr Mrs Funke Lawson, and of which I am always proud, always quick to say yes, they are our friends.

All my family members have received treatment there at one time or the other and in fact one of my sons, a medical doctor did part of his youth service at the Zankli and it was a good foundation for him which we really appreciated.

Professor Lawson was kind, humane and compassionate.........in 2008 when my husband took seriously ill, and was admitted into his hospital, Prof Lawson made sure he was in the best room and in our presence, he told his doctors and senior nursing staff  "this is my Brother, whatever  you would do for me if I were ill, do it for him". I couldn't wish for more. My Husband was there for a couple of weeks before we moved him to the US where he eventually passed....Professor Lawson and his team looked after him excellently well and yet he did not charge us a kobo...what a man!

Professor Lawson was kind, friendly, full of humour, distinguished, a thorough professional and a great friend.....he will be sorely missed.

Our sincere condolences to Dr Mrs Funke Lawson and the entire family....praying that the God of ALL comfort will comfort them and grant them grace to bear this great loss.

May his memory remain evergreen in our hearts and may his soul find eternal rest with His Creator, Master and Friend, Jesus Christ.....AMEN🙏

Adieu Professor Lovett Lawson, our dear Friend and Doctor......Fare the well !!!

Dear Professor Lawson:
When we reflect on the impact you have had on the field of Tuberculosis, we are lost for words at the sudden demise of a great pillar in the Tuberculosis space in Nigeria and the world at large.
You were a pioneer in the TB work in Nigeria and spent a lot of your time working on eradicating TB.
We all have similar stories to share about how you have left an indelible mark on several of us personally and professionally and we saw the benefits not only amongst public healthcare professionals, but particularly to the TB Patients in Nigeria. Let us start with the Stop TB partnership Nigeria, where you have been a long‐standing and accomplished member and chairman and left as a grand patron.
Your relationship with the national TB program and TB stakeholders in Nigeria and very dear to our hearts is the role you played in the launch of the Nigeria Parliamentary TB Caucus and how you lead several highlevel engagements in the fight against TB in Nigeria.
Your leadership within national professional societies and other non professional bodies was always visible and that's another reason why you commanded unparalleled respect in your everyday life.
This is also evidenced by your participation in planning programs and intervention that has advanced the work of TB in Nigeria and indeed the world at large. All the work and effort you have put in over the years will never be forgotten.
Dear Professor Lovett Lawson, you truly are an amazing man in addition to being a TB advocate, masterful clinician, humanitarian and visionary leader.
On behalf of the Global TB Caucus, we say continue to Rest In Peace and know that your legacy will live on. (Sarah Kirk and Deborah Ogwuche for Global TB Caucus)

Adieu to an icon of our time.
It was so sad and very unsettling to hear of your demise... "...oh death where is the sting..."

Your kindness and compassion for people's plight is what stood out for me.
I can't forget the day I walked into your office as a young corper, looking for a Place of Primary Assignment, you asked me a few questions and also gave me an assignment to submit back to you. At the end, you didn't just give me a place to serve as a corp member, but afterwards as a full time staff after service.

You built Zankli from nothing to all that it is today, and am so grateful to have kick started my career in such a reputable organization.

Thank you Sir for living a life full of relevance and impact. You were truly inspiring.

May the Lord grant your family the fortitude to bear this loss, and may He grant you rest in His bossom.
ADIEU SIR PROF. LOVETT LAWSON!

My dearest Uncle Lovett,
I can’t believe the time has come to write a tribute to say goodbye. It still seems so unreal. Ever so full of life, it seemed you would be with us down here for much longer. I’m short of words. I’ve thought about what to say since July 13…If I could turn back the hands of time, I would have called you to hear your voice one last time when you were in the hospital. I was praying fervently for you and did not allow myself to picture this scenario. If I could turn back the hands of time, I would have kept you on the phone for as long as I could back in June when you called me in response to a question, I asked you on WhatsApp. I would have told you how much I loved you. I would have thanked you for being a great Uncle, Brother to my Mum and Son to my Grandparents.
I didn’t realise the last celebration we would have together would be the zoom birthday party for my Dad in June. Interestingly on celebrating with my Dad on his birthday, you thanked him for taking care of your sweetheart all these years. I don’t know why I sort of mulled over those words… but it makes sense now. Last year, in Amsterdam we were all together as a family celebrating Dipo’s wedding. I’m no dancer, but I wished we had danced. Had I known, Should I have been given the crystal ball to foresee, like a faithful poppy, I would have followed your every move; storing every memory, savoring every moment. And I would have said a million thank you’s for the million and one things you’ve done. I would have done this… I would have done that…
You had a way of making me feel special. You would call me your second wife or Bis Bis. You achieved so much yet remained humble, approachable, and loveable. The hundreds and hundreds of tributes attest to the beauty of your person. I have never seen so much good spoken consistently about a man before. I am truly inspired by your life, and in a way, a bit disappointed with myself for not making myself as available to learn as much as I could from you. For truly, there was much to learn.
I pray that your labour of love here on earth which hundreds have attested to would not be in vain. I pray that all your prayers and gifts to the poor come up as a memorial before God. May he say to you, “Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord”.
I pray that the God of all comforts will continue to strengthen Aunty Funke and my darling cousins Rotimi, Femi & Tope & their beautiful wives. May the good Lord bless you all and give you double for every trouble in Jesus mighty name.
Love you Uncle,
Bis Bis
