There are many traditions from around the world that determine what a funeral looks like. In some cultures the body is cremated and the ashes may be kept in an urn. In other cultures, the body is put into the ground itself without a coffin. Some traditions have people who are designated wailers who are there to help people cry. Eulogies may be said in honor of the departed. What these cultures all have in common is the desire to mark the importance of the individual's life and to mourn for the loss of the departed.

Prof. Lovett Lawson, was my in-law, his sister married my elder brother and since getting to know him over 35 year’s agao, he has towered tall at every level. I grew closer to his family and his fantastic wife, when I travelled all over northern Nigeria working for the World Health Organization and their home became my sanctuary in Jos and In Abuja. As everyone knows he has an extremely large heart, I was always, warmly and joyfully welcomed at any time I visited. I felt I was part of his immediate family and became great friends with his wife. I always feel life exuding from him whenever I meet him at his home or at the family events of the Lawson or the Denloye’s. I was and greatly touched by his warmness.
As a medical doctor going by what he has achieved, he has done extremely well. He was a visionary, as he moved his hospital from Jos to the capital in Abuja and established a well renowned medical Centre, well done. Like everything else, it grew and grew and grew and it is still growing and will continue to grow and evolve in Jesus Name. I am sure your wife and the Zankil family will keep the torch burning bright and you will be proud of them as you look down on then from heaven.
Not only was he a visionary but he kept improving himself and his medical facility, as he pursued a PhD to keep himself on top of his field.
He was greatly loved by his family, wife and children and immediate brothers and Precious sister Nadu, and I believed the extended Lawson family as well, and also by his in-laws, the Denloye’s family, and other in-laws as well.
To say he will be missed, is a gross understatement, we are only thankful and grateful to the Lord for the meaningful life that he lived and that people like me had the great opportunity to know him.
Thank you Dr. Lovett for all you are, and all you have done for humanity especially Nigerians.
Adieu till we meet again at the feet of Jesus.

Hmmm... How do I put 30- odd years of memories into a few sentences?! Ẹ̀gbọ́n "LOVITO!" Wow!!.... according to you, "NOTHING is more important than FAMILY!" You proved it over and over again.. thank God for that family dinner in October 2019. Little did I know that would be our last physical meeting; after ALL our so-called "well thought out" plans to "rock NYC" in March went to pot!!....You left a legacy of excellence, humility, humour, respect, love AND family values! Certain memories bring a smile to my face, instances of when you're "losing it" and I'm like...."HABA unkuul LOVITO!!"....that tends to calm you down....you then say "okay, okay...." AND your feeble attempts at trying to micromanage our "make-up queue" on the morning of "DeFember 2015!"....Too much to say, but TOO little time!.... sleep well ẹ̀gbọ́n mi, till Resurrection morning! *Proverbs 13 v 22; 22 v 29*

Words can not express how sad your death has made me. God has used you to bless me in many ways but the most recent was the role you played when I had my son early this year. If not for how swift you responded when my baby was in an emergency situation, i do not know what would have happened. You have left an indelible mark in the life of me and my husband. To me, you were an upright man and a worthy mentor. You will always be remembered for your good works and for the lives you have touched. Your compassion towards the vulnerable in society and your commitment towards ending TB especially is Nigeria will not be forgotten. Your departure will indeed leave a huge Vacuum in the health space and most especially in the TB space. You will be greatly missed.I pray that you receive your reward in the bossom of the Almighty. Rest in peace Prof. Lovett Lawson.

Our first contact with him was in 1989 when he helped deliver our daughter in his Hospital in Rikkos, Jos, as she was nearly delivered outside the hospital on arrival. We had over the years witnessed his legendary contributions to the medical profession and society in general. He was indeed a man of honour, unassuming and detribalised. He made friends across the length and breadth of Nigeria.
