TRIBUTE TO LATE SIR (PROF) LOVETTE LAWSON, KJW
We, Members of Council of Knights, Abuja Chapter received with profound sorrow the news of the sad demise of Late Sir (Prof) Lovette Lawson, KJW on the 13th July 2020. He was a widely and highly respected member of council and demonstrated strong Christian values and love of God through his work by providing advice and perspective on many issues that engendered collaborative works among knights. We know that it is not easy to bear the death of loved one like Sir (Prof) Lovette Lawson but to also remember that death is only the end of the physical life and the beginning of eternal life.
Sir (Prof) Lovette Lawson was a man of great personality, open-minded character and outstanding example to all members of Council as his relationship cut across every member no matter their social or economic status. By his commitment to the things of God, he contributed immensely to the development of Abuja Chapter of Council of Knights.
As we join the family to mourn the passing on to glory of their beloved father, grandfather, husband, uncle, brother and a devoted Christian, we also have cause to be grateful to God Almighty for the life this worthy knight lived, for he rendered great services to humanity which positively touched many lives in the Church of God and body of Council of Knights.
We pray that God will grant the departed soul eternal rest in the bosom of our Lord Jesus Christ and also grant the church, family members and Council of Knights the fortitude to bear the loss.

IN MEMORIAM – PROF. LOVETT L. LAWSON
We commiserate with the entire Lawson family in Nigeria and beyond, on the transition of Prof. Lovett L. Lawson who joined his ancestors suddenly and unexpectedly on Monday, 13th July 2020. As we do not have earthly answers to this tragedy, we however, believe that his demise was in accordance with the covenant he made with his maker, God Almighty.
He was a multi-dimensional personality whose life could be viewed through the lens of his spirituality, family and profession. On these scores, his devotion to God was never in question. Through his spirit-filled commitment and Eucharistic living, he demonstrated that he was indeed, a disciple of Christ and an authentic child of promise!
By all accounts, he was a devoted family man who loved his wife, children and grandchildren generously and fiercely. He was a patient, protective, loving, caring, and indeed, an ultimate family man! A man with a “huge” heart – he was thoughtful, cheerful and enjoyable. Not to mention that he had a full measure of calm demeanor is to diminish a cardinal, dominant, and major attribute of his being. Beyond that, he was sociable and socially engaged – a natural when it came to connecting with people whom he spoke kindly about, and cared for deeply. Through all these and in sum, he earned an enormous admiration for himself from all and sundry.
Professionally, he was a clear-eyed, hard-smart medico, and one of the finest physicians around. He was incredibly talented and eminently qualified to rise to the zenith of his calling. His “can-do” attitude to life, made it possible for him to be appointed a Professor of Infectious Diseases, later in his career; the title he held so proudly! He also excelled as a practicing medical expert, and his entrepreneurial spirit propelled him to the realm of “Who-is-Who” among business moguls in Nigeria. In short, he was an uncommon man with uncommon abilities. Professor Lawson’s countless awards include – University of Lagos, College of Medicine, Distinguished Alumni Award, Outstanding Professional To Stop Tuberculous Partnership Award, Igbobi College, Alumni Merit Award for Professional Excellence and the Knighthood of John Wesley, Methodist Mission in Nigeria.
As the final physical separation draws near, we wanted to assure the family that your Patriarch, husband and Dad had seen a glorious dawn, and he is at this time journeying to a place specially prepared for him by Angels. In fact, we draw on scripture that assures and comforts all believers that death is temporary in the larger scheme of things (John 11: 25-26).
All of his children must be reminded of the fact that Dad possessed unlimited imaginations and vision, and therefore, they now have a singular opportunity to continue to blaze the trail he pioneered, in the best traditions of etching his memory in the sands of time, and to honor his legacy.
It is our fervent prayer that his family and each of us who knew him more closely would keep an evergreen memory of him and all that he stood for. May God perpetually shine his light on him! Amen.

Tribute to Prof. Lovett Lawson,
Prof. Lovett Lawson, was my in-law, his sister married my elder brother and since getting to know him over 35 year’s agao, he has towered tall at every level. I grew very close to his family and his fantastic wife, when I travelled all over northern Nigeria working for the World Health Organization and their home became my sanctuary in Jos and In Abuja. As everyone knows he has an extremely large heart, I was always, warmly and joyfully welcomed at any time I visited. I felt I was part of his immediate family and became great friends with his wife. I always feel life exuding from him whenever I meet him at his home or at the Lawson & Denloye’s. family reunion. I was and greatly touched by his warmness.
As a medical doctor going by what he has achieved, he has done extremely well. He was a visionary, as he moved his hospital from Jos to the capital in Abuja and established a well renowned medical Centre, well done. Like everything else, it grew and grew and grew and it is still growing and will continue to grow and evolve in Jesus Name. I am sure your wife and the Zankil family will keep the torch burning bright and you will be proud of them as you look down on then from heaven.
Not only was he a visionary but he kept improving himself and his medical facility, as he pursued a PhD to keep himself on top of his field.
He was greatly loved by his family, wife and children and immediate brothers and Precious sister Nadu, and I believed the extended Lawson family as well, and also by his in-laws, the Denloye’s family, and other in-laws as well.
To say he will be missed, is a gross understatement, we are only thankful and grateful to the Lord for the meaningful life that he lived and that people like me had the great opportunity to know him.
Thank you Dr. Lovett for all you are, and all you have done for humanity especially Nigerians.
Adieu till we meet again at the feet of Jesus.

Latevi and I first met as young teenagers in the boarding house of Lagos Baptist Academy on a cold harmattan day in January 1962. This day was the beginning of a friendship that has lasted the best part of 58years. Loveetto (as he was fondly called) hosted my lavish bachelor’s eve in his father’s residence in Ikeja GRA, in December 1973 ! I can only hope that he got his father’s permission then ! We transited to different tertiary institutions but still maintained contact even during his NYSC and later sojourn in Jos. Lovett was an intelligent, ambitious student, a gifted athlete who went on to build a very successful medical practice with his darling wife, Funke, in Abuja. I am glad to have been able to visit them during my short trips to Abuja, the last of which was in January 2020 when I spent time with the family. Our last contact was recently in March 2020 when he called me for information on our school to include in his autobiography. I sincerely hope he was able complete it before his untimely demise.I thank God for knowing such a wonderful, accomplished man who devoted his life to reaching the pinnacle of success in his chosen profession, an ambition he had nurtured since our school days in Baptacads. May our Almighty God bless his wife and lovely children and grant them the fortitude to bear the loss of this great man, successful father and worthy contributor to medical practice in our nation, Nigeria. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
