Lovett was a wonderful friend, always hospitable, generous, self-sacrificing, and jovial. His hard work and dedication led to advances in tuberculosis diagnosis and treatment. I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked with him, and I witnessed his tremendous leadership in the medical field and personal investment in building research capacity in Nigeria. He will be greatly missed.

Monday, the 13th of July, 2020, will forever remain indelible in our mind. That was the day that the cold hands of death snatched away from this mortal earth an illustrious and amiable son of Nigeria, Professor Lovett Lawson.
The news of his passing on from this sinful world into eternity after a brief illness came to us all as a big surprise and a rude shock which has induced severe common cold in me. No doubt death is a necessary end and it will come when the time is due. It is still difficult to believe that the inevitable has happened.
My first interaction with Prof. Lawson was early 2000 when we met to discuss the provision of consultancy ENT. Services to his patients in Zankli Medical Centre, Abuja. Since then till his death our association and relationship have been that of a brother and a professional colleague.
who was Professor Lawson? Words are rather scanty to describe him. He was an embodiment of numerous enviable characteristic attributes that endeared him to all who knew and associated with him. He was a perfect gentleman, a living witness of humility, simplicity, love, compassion, kind-heartedness, integrity and uprightness, a great teacher, academician, a team leader, a devout Christian and above all, a family man. As a private Medical Practitioner, he worked so hard that he became a professor of Infectious Diseases in Bingham University, Nasarawa State. This was a rare achievement.
What a great loss! What a pain! You will be greatly missed by all. However, we are consoled by the fact that you have fought a good fight and finished the race. There is no doubt that you have gone to receive the crown the Lord has prepared for you in his heavenly kingdom. We pray that God will console the wife and family he has left behind and may he rest in peace in the bosom of the Lord till we met to part no more.

A God fearing, generous, jovial and  true gentlemen has gone to be with the Lord

It was with great sadness that we received the news of the passing of Professor Lovett Lawson.

I got to know Professor Lawson first, through his wife, Dr Funke Lawson, a very active member of Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN). He was one of our most cherished “Associate” Members. That is the name we give to supportive husbands of MWAN members. Our friendship deepened even more, through our children who went to school together.

Early this year, Prof and Funke held  a reception to celebrate my elevation to the position of International President of the Medical Women’s International Association (MWIA). They left no stone unturned to make the occasion grand and memorable and I felt like royalty.

On behalf of the Medical Women International Association family,  I pray for the Lord to comfort Funke, Olurotimi, Oluwafemi, Oluwatope and their spouses Toyosi, Derinsola and Olujoke and all the family. Because Christ lives they can face tomorrow.

I am certain that Professor Lovett Lawson received a royal celebration in heaven.

May his gentle and generous soul rest in perfect peace.

God bless,

Dr Eleanor Nwadinobi
International President,
Medical Women’s International Association (MWIA)

A Tribute to Prof. Lovett Lawson

I received with greatest shock the news of the death of Prof. Lovett Lawson on Monday 13th July and my heart ached with deep pain at this irreplaceable loss. I could not imagine how our Sister, Colleague and Friend, Dr. (Mrs.) Funke Lawson must be feeling if I was having so much pain. My mind flashed back to the tremendous support the Lawsons had been to the Medical Women's Association of Nigeria (MWAN) since I became National President in September 2019 and even before. I also with a pang of nostalgia remembered the Tuberculosis Research Projects, I was planning to request Prof. to assist MWAN with and sighed at the lost opportunity. Our Brother is absent from us for a season. By God's grace we shall meet some day to part no more. Rest in peace Prof. Lawson. Be comforted Dr. Lawson and Family.
In Jesus' Name. Amen

A Tribute to Uncle Lovett Lawson

It is much too hard to take in the fact that you are no longer with us. You were full of fun, laughter, zest, love, life! You lived well, and accomplished so much in your career, family life, spiritual life. In addition, you were such a giving soul. Only God knows the countless numbers of people who you have touched their lives in so many positive ways. In all of this, you remained humble, friendly, cheerful. God bless and rest your sweet soul.

Funke, the Children and Grandchildren, God in His infinite mercy will fill the void with peace which passes all understanding. Amen.

It was a shock when I first learnt of Dr. Lovett Lawson's passing on. He was my family Doctor for a very long time and such an empathetic and effective medic at that. I stopped at his office for a short chat when I visited Zankli hospital for my annual check up early this year 2020 before the pandemic lockdown. He was as usual welcoming, relaxed friendly and in high spirits. Little did I know that six months later, he would be gone from us. My family and I will miss him sorely. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.
